"This Amazing Life” is a new magazine with the aim of lifting up homeschooling families and helping them find and use great tools so they can keep doing what they do with confidence.
Today I am also sharing on my children's blog, Stories From Our LEGO Town. We have been using an ebook called Brick Animals and today I shared my review about the ebook. I would love it if you would check it out, and while there, feel free to encourage my children by leaving them a comment about their LEGO creations :) Thanks! This Amazing Life is the name of a new magazine for homeschoolers that will be a quarterly publication coming out for the first time in September 2014!

Now that I have told you about the wonderful things I learned and bought at our homeschool convention, have you signed up for your local homeschool convention yet, or at least found out when and where it is? If not, let me give you a few reasons why I think you should try to attend a homeschool convention :)
What was the best thing I learned at the homeschool convention this year? Well, it was a brilliant idea that I got at a workshop titled Secrets to Home Management by Kim Noel. It was such a simple, yet brilliant, idea, that I wondered why I hadn't thought of it myself! What was that brilliant idea? Read on, and I will tell you all about it, and some of the other wonderful things I learned at the SHBE Convention this year!
I shared in my last post that we recently attended our provincial homeschool convention. It was held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and put on by the Saskatchewan Home Based Educators (SHBE). Saskatchewan Home Based Educators (SHBE) is the official voice of home-based educators in Saskatchewan. We assist in creating a positive social network and a positive political environment for all those who choose home-based education. We also provide supportive, social and instructional resources for our members. If you homeschool in Saskatchewan and don't already have a SHBE membership, I highly recommend you get one :) The SHBE board does a lot for us! They are our voice when there needs to be discussion with the government. They are also a great source of encouragement and wisdom!
Have you ever been to a homeschool convention? Every year, in February, we have a provincial homeschool convention. I must admit that it is one of my favourite times of the year!
We recently attended the convention and I want to share about it with you. Partly, I want to share the things I learned in hopes that I can encourage others the way I was encouraged. Also, I know that writing it down will help me remember what I have learned too :) This will be a four-part post. In today's post I will share with you about our main speaker and the important message he shared with us. In my next posts I will share with you about the things I learned at the other workshops and also what I bought. In my last post I will share with you why I think YOU should go to a homeschool convention :) The kids and I have been reviewing a fun book called Star Chronicles: A Bible-based Study of the Stars by Dawnita Fogleman. We are learning a lot about the constellations with this book! I am looking forward to sharing my full review with you soon, but for today I am sharing with you a really great giveaway from the Star Chronicles launch team. Enter the giveaway for a chance to win $275 worth of prizes, including a telescope to help you get a closer look at the stars you are studying :)
The last month was mighty cold, with the kind of weather that makes you wonder if spring will ever come. But now that it's mid-March, we are seeing the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel! The last week has been beautiful, full of warm, sunny days and lots of melting snow. The farmers are starting to talk about seeding, my mother-in-law, who is an avid birdwatcher, saw some robins, and a friend told us they saw geese flying overhead yesterday! All signs of spring in Saskatchewan :)
The sun and the warm weather have been calling me outside, and I have been happy to ignore the housework for an half hour or so each day to go "look for signs of spring" with the kids outside. I figure that is a wonderful half hour homeschool science ;) Did you know that March 14 is Pi Day? If you are like my husband when I told him it was Pi Day, you will expect me to bake a pie for you to eat. Sorry to disappoint you (and him), but I'm not talking about that kind of pie :) Pi is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and is approximately equal to 3.14159. (*Taken from Wikipedia.) Since March 14 is the 3rd month and 14th day, it is 3.14 = Pi Day :)
(*Make sure you go all the way to the end of this post to see the great giveaway we have to help you celebrate Pi Day!) I told the kids that we were going to have a geometry day and explained that we would be learning about shapes. My 9 year old informed me, "We already know our shapes!" To which I replied, "Oh, do you?" They know their basic shapes, but we haven't done much with shapes with more than 4 sides. So, by the end of our geometry day, even my 9 year old had learned something :) You know, it's kind of funny. When I was in school I hated math! But now that I'm homeschooling my children and teaching them math, I actually enjoy it :) I think that remembering how much I disliked math as a child is why I try so hard to make it fun for my children. The best thing about it is that my math skills are improving as I teach my children too ;)
