In November I heard of K5 Learning for the first time. K5 Learning is an online learning program for students from K-5. They have reading and math help for students. When I saw that they offered a free 6 week trial to bloggers willing to do reviews, I decided to give it a try.

Little Man sells rocks. His business is called Rock Treasures. (To learn more about his, and his sisters businesses, you can find my other posts on my Pinterest board: My Crafty Kids Series.) The newest rock project he has been working on is a really great connecting the dots project for our homeschool! He is making alphabet rocks.
Confession: I never taught my daughter any sight words until she was 8 years old! I found a post on Pinterest that gave me a list of 220 sight words, complete with charts to mark off when your child learned them, an explanation of the importance of learning sight words and when the children usually learn the words. I was appalled when I realized that by the end of second grade, she was supposed to know them all! She was half way through second grade and barely knew any of them!
When I asked friends what they would be interested in reading about on a homeschool blog a couple of people commented about being “real” and sharing our “struggles and triumphs”. When I think about being "real", it scares me a little bit. I tend to be a little defensive about homeschooling sometimes, wanting everyone to know that homeschooling is awesome and we are having so much fun, and we are not ruining our children by homeschooling them. But the fact is, it is not always easy or fun and sometimes even I wonder if I am doing the right thing.
When I say that I wonder if I am doing the right thing, it's not that I doubt that God wants our family to homeschool, but sometimes I wonder if I am doing a good enough job. Actually, I worry about that an awful lot. Sometimes people make nasty comments about our choices that don’t help either. |
