This spring we joined a book club called Herb Fairies. It’s a series of e-books with related activities to help us learn about herbs and wild crafting. We have had a lot of fun learning how to use the plants we find around our yard. This summer we ate violets, chickweed, nettle and dandelions. Knowing what plants are safe to eat could be helpful to know if they ever get lost in the wild. They are also learning how to make herbal medicines, as well as interesting knowledge, like how to pick stinging nettle without getting stung. | |
Last summer I discovered that I love fishing! The kids also love it when I catch a fish. We have learned to identify several types of fish, learned the parts of the fish, learned about predator - prey relationships as we have had the opportunity to see little fish in the bigger fish's stomach when we cut them open, and we have also watched pelicans catch fish. Most importantly, again, it is a life skill; they learned how to get the fish out of the water and onto our plates for supper.
I would love to hear about your summer adventures!
