This is the third post in my series about my 8 year old daughter's cake decorating course. (You can find the first two posts on my Pinterest board, Cake Decorating.) Princess is taking a cake decorating course on building buttercream skills at Bulk Barn. In her first class she baked and decorated cookies. In the second class she learned how to put filling in and decorate a cake. Her third class was focused on decorating cupcakes. She made her cupcakes at the same time she made her cake and we froze the cupcakes until she needed them for this class. In this class she got to do more practice with her icing tips on the practice board. She was also supposed to bring her icing already coloured this time. We had fun mixing icing colours, especially making the pink, as she wanted it to be a bright pink :) This time she learned how to make star and swirled flowers, rosettes and shells. Then she was taught how to make a pompom flower on a flower nail. Unfortunately, our icing was too thin for the pompom flower and she was not very happy with how it turned out. She also learned how to make leaves, how to fill a cupcake and how to use the 1M icing tip to make a swirl on the top of a cupcake. The last thing she learned was how to make a shaggy mum. This was her favourite! She called this icing tip the spaghetti tip :) Afterwards, she got to use everything she has learned so far to decorate her cupcakes. Personally, I think she is doing incredibly well for an 8 year old! Actually, she is doing better than I think I could do, even now :) She wants to start selling cupcakes at her craft sales now! I have to admit, that would probably be a good business move! The next class is her final one in this course! She has to bring a cake already baked, filled and iced and come with a plan for how she wants to decorate it. I am looking forward to seeing how her final project turns out!
