Friday
By the time we got to the lake the storm was over and we were able to set up our camper, eat some supper and then went down to the lake for some fishing before bed. Here are some pictures of our aunt and uncle's yard.
Saturday
Everyone was up bright and early and the weather was perfect for a day at the lake! In fact, every day we were there were perfect beach days! Hot and sunny with almost no wind! Saturday morning Little Man and I went on a paddle boat date :) We paddled for awhile, past Frog Island, which the kids named last year because they heard so many frogs there. We beached the paddle boat on shore and went exploring on the rocky beach. We found wild raspberries and wild saskatoons and Little Man and I had a second breakfast with the yummy wild berries. |
After we had identified monocots and dicots we collected some seeds from some of my aunt's flowers. Once they are dry we are going to make these seed envelopes to store them in.
Over the weekend we found several toads and frogs. I love it that the kids can identify whether the creature they caught is a frog or a toad, as that is something we learned last year. I find it interesting though that my youngest was cuddling the toad. Does anyone else have children who cuddle such things as toads? She just loves all animals so much! |
Sunday
All three children decided they like fishing on the weekend and surprised us by spending quite a bit of time trying to catch a fish. Even with all five of us trying, we never did catch any fish :( That was disappointing, but it was a good lesson in determination and patience, even for Mom, as I had been planning on cooking fish for supper.
Monday
Tuesday (Back Home)
(Unfortunately, Cottonball's babies have all since died. Apparently it is perfectly normal for a first time mother rabbit to lose her whole litter, but that did not make it any easier on the kids. Not so much fun, but we are still learning! We did a bunch of research to see what to do next time and we will try breeding her again and hope that things will go better next time!)
