Although we have The Prairie Primer, we are not really following it. I am using it more as an outline. Where it mentions studying bears, we made a bear lapbook. Where it suggests studying osmosis, we did some science experiments. The Prairie Primer is a great resource though! It is a full curriculum (except for math) that you can use as you go through the Little House books. Using the extra resources, like the cookbook, crafts book and song book can make the experience that much more fulfilling!
Each day, after we have finished the rest of our school work, I read to the kids from the Little House in the Big Woods. While I read, the children work on their lapbook activities. After I read,we talk about what they worked on while I read. They cut and glue their pictures into our Little House binder and we go to the computer to do the research they need to fill in their mini books.
As we continue to go through the Little House books, you can look forward to the posts that I will be sharing about our Little House adventures! As soon as we are done with the Little House in the Big Woods, I will show you some of the fun things we have been doing while reading the first book in the series. I have a Pinterest board for Little House on the Prairie, where you will be able to find the resources we have used and I will pin my Little House posts there too.
Have you read the Little House on the Prairies books with your children? Did you do any activities to go along with the books? I would love to hear about what you did! If you have any posts about your time studying Little House, feel free to post your links in the comments. If we use your ideas I will definitely refer back to your blog in my posts!
