At the first lesson the instructor brought an 8 inch round cake. She showed the students how to level the cake and then tort it (which means to cut it in half so you can put a filling in the middle). She then showed them how to make a dam with icing around the edge of the inside of the cake to hold the filling in. Then she iced the cake, showing the students how to use the Wilton Cake Icer Tip.
Suddenly I realized that everyone was packing up to leave! The 2 hours had gone by really fast! Princess had loved it and had only started to get wiggly just before she was told she could decorate her cookies, which took care of her wiggles :) Princess is supposed to bring an 8 inch round cake for next week's class. She is as excited about baking the cake as she is about decorating it!
Are you into cake decorating? What advice would you give a beginning cake decorator, like Princess?
