Saskatchewan Home Based Educators (SHBE) is the official voice of home-based educators in Saskatchewan. We assist in creating a positive social network and a positive political environment for all those who choose home-based education. We also provide supportive, social and instructional resources for our members.
I shared in my last post that we recently attended our provincial homeschool convention. It was held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and put on by the Saskatchewan Home Based Educators (SHBE). If you homeschool in Saskatchewan and don't already have a SHBE membership, I highly recommend you get one :) The SHBE board does a lot for us! They are our voice when there needs to be discussion with the government. They are also a great source of encouragement and wisdom!

Have you ever noticed that when reading homeschool / parenting blogs there are certain curriculums and programs that seem to be mentioned a lot? That is probably one of the best forms of advertising there is for those companies, because seeing so many other homeschoolers talking about how much they love certain programs always gets me curious :)
In November I heard of K5 Learning for the first time. K5 Learning is an online learning program for students from K-5. They have reading and math help for students. When I saw that they offered a free 6 week trial to bloggers willing to do reviews, I decided to give it a try.
Well, another Christmas has come and gone and a new year is upon us. We are starting 2014 with some big changes in our home! For the first time in the ten years we have been married, my husband will be starting a new job!
As a homeschooler, I have heard the name of Charlotte Mason all over the homeschool world. I have been curious about what the Charlotte Mason method is and have done a little research. What I found out looked interesting, so when I had a chance to review one of Kimberly Garcia's books from the Write From History curriculum, a Charlotte Mason writing program, I decided that this was a good chance to learn a little more about Charlotte Mason and how the Charlotte Mason method would work in our homeschool.
My apologies for my silence on here the last couple of weeks! I'm afraid that life has been a little crazy around here! We have been dealing with lice and the flu! And with all the extra Christmas activities we are involved in, something had to go, and I'm afraid the blog got the short end of the stick. The good news is that with all this craziness, I have some good ideas for future posts, like how to deal with lice! Until we are done with Christmas for the year I probably won't be posting much. In the new year I will be back with some more great posts!
Our Munchkin is only 4 years old, but she loves numbers and doing school work. She kept asking when she could start doing "real" school, like her brother and sister. So, we started her on her kindergarten math this year!
I was blessed to receive a copy of Putting on the Spirit - Ten Minute Devotions for Busy Moms by Katie Hornor! This devotional book has been such a blessing to me! It has helped me understand the fruit of the Spirit better, and learn how I can help the fruit of the Spirit grow in my own life, even with all the crazy busyness of being a mom. I am looking forward to telling you more about it in another post when the book is released on December 9 :) For now, let me just tell you that if you are a busy, Christian mom (and aren't ALL moms busy moms?) this book will bless you too!
