Something I like to do with my children is take time off from our regular school work to do a week of fun, seasonal activities. The start of the new school year is a great time to do a week of autumn activities and kick the new school year off with some fun! Let me show you some of the things we did during our week of autumn activities.

Munchkin, our preschooler, loves animals of all kinds, but her favourites are definitely farm animals! (She is a true farm girl!) She is also my only child who really loves doing book work and work sheets. When the other two were preschool age, we mostly played and if they learned something, great, if not, that was okay. Also, if we did not do any school, it was not a big deal because they were not ready for it anyway. Munchkin is completely different! She wants to do school every day, all the time! She is quick to tell me when her work box is empty and ask if I can give her more school work to do! So, we started a new unit study on animals, consisting mostly of things I can find to keep her busy while I am working with her brother and sister.
Our little Munchkin is now five years old! Munchkin is also a huge animal lover, so for her birthday party we visited a petting zoo with some friends. If you live in southwest Saskatchewan, I highly recommend visiting Gramma Zoo Exotics! They have quite a variety of animals and the kids had a great time!
Spring seems to have finally come to Saskatchewan! With the warmer weather comes all sorts of wonderful learning opportunities and teachable moments that we don't get at other times of the year. Continue reading to see three reasons why I love homeschooling on the farm in spring.
Last week I took a break from blogging. Since it was Easter, I called it my Easter break :) This post is heavy on the pictures, as I promised to take lots of pictures to show you why I was too busy to blog last week :) We had a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy our pictures too!
My husband and I both try to make sure we spend one-on-one time with each of our children. When I take just one of the kids with me, I call it a "date". The kids love having one parent all to themselves once in awhile, and I love being able to focus on just one child at a time sometimes. Our dates are always a special time for both me and whichever child is with me.
Princess and I both love flowers and working in the garden, which I seem to have inherited from my own mom. My mom told me about a great opportunity for us to start getting our hands in the dirt earlier than usual. R & R Greenhouse and Gardens near Limerick, Saskatchwan offers workshops where you can go and get an early start on your spring gardening! Princess and I signed up for the Plant Your Own Hanging Baskets workshop and went to play in the dirt :) Today I am over at Hip Homeschool Moms, sharing about Autumn on the Farm. Make sure you check it out at http://www.hiphomeschoolmoms.com/2013/10/autumn-fun-on-the-farm/.
Thanks! Don't forget that I will be taking a break for a few days, but I will be back soon! Happy Thanksgiving from Canada! |
